BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. – Severe storms moved across Bartholomew County Wednesday evening leaving downed lines and power outages in their wake. Tornado Warnings, Tornado Watches, and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued at various times.
The Columbus Fire Department reminds you that downed power lines should be considered live lines and residents should stay away from power lines that may have fallen as a result of the storms.
Bartholomew County REMC said the storms initially resulted in about 3,800 households without power, with more calls continuing to come in. Crews were assembled and sent out to the largest outages first. You are requested to report an outage through the SmartHub app. The call center is overloaded.
Late Wednesday night, Duke Energy reported about 100 outages, mostly in the Petersville and Walesboro areas.
Local authorities say a complete assessment of damage won’t be possible until Thursday morning.
