COLUMBUS, Ind. – The first event in the Bartholomew County Historical Society’s 2025 Evelyn Seward Speaker Series is this Thursday, March 27, at 6 p.m., at a hangar at Columbus Municipal Airport, 2045 W Taxiway Drive.
During the lecture, you will learn about the fascinating history of the Huey helicopters from Jim Ogilvie, Michael Shores, and Gary Galbraith, three of the 45 members of the Columbus Indiana Huey Organization.
The group’s goal is to preserve the historic UH-1 Huey as a flying museum. Its mission is to educate the community on the history of these military warbirds, honor all active military and veterans, and support communities in the form of air relief in times of need.
The Huey began production in 1956. It was used heavily in the Vietnam War and is still in service today in many countries.
After the presentation, attendees will be able to sit in the Huey. The hangar is located at the second gate off of N. Warren Dr.
