SEYMOUR, Ind. – A forestry field day for landowners is set on Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.. The field day, sponsored by Let the Sun Shine In-Indiana and Indiana Forestry and Woodland Owners, is in southwest Jackson County, five miles southwest of Medora.
Landowner David Ray will lead the tour. Nathan Grieling, Forester, will discuss the property’s management and answer questions. Participants will view recent prescribed burn areas, learn about forestry best management practices and enhancing habitat for wildlife, and how landowners receive financial assistance to help manage their forests. Dan Shaver, the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service State Forester, will talk about conservation programs.
A free lunch will be provided to tour participants. The tour will involve walking in a hilly forest, sometimes on rough terrain, to view and learn about the practices. Participants should wear appropriate clothing and footwear for a morning in the woods.
