COLUMBUS, Ind. – Because of continued rain the last couple of days, the Bartholomew County and Columbus area is experiencing moderate flooding along the Driftwood and Flatrock Rivers. The East Fork of the White River is experiencing major flooding.
Impacted areas are along State Road 46W (Jonathon Moore Pike) from State Road 11 to I-65, State Road 11S, West County Road 325S, and Lowell Road. State Road 46W is closed between downtown Columbus and I-65 until sometime Monday evening or early Tuesday morning, following the river crest at 16.70 feet. Officials will update as information becomes available.
State Road 11, south of the overpass at State Road 46, Southern Crossing, and CR800 S, are also closed due to flooding. Motorists must use alternate routes of travel to access the downtown Columbus area. Alternate routes of travel in and out of Columbus from the south are to be routed to I-65 at the Taylorsville (Exit 76) exit, via US 31 north and south. State Road 46, east of Columbus, is not affected by the closure.
Bartholomew County Emergency Management reminds travelers that US 31 South, at the Bartholomew/Jackson County line, remains closed for bridge repair. For travel south out of the county, drivers will need to utilize I-65.
Local law enforcement warns that residents who drive around a road closure sign could be ticketed..
