COLUMBUS, Ind. – The City of Columbus offices will remain open for regular operation on Monday, April 7, despite ongoing flooding in parts of the area.
Officials are closely monitoring conditions and remain in communication with emergency management to ensure the safety of employees and the public.
“We want to ensure the community that essential services remain fully operational,” said Mayor Mary Ferdon. “At the same time, we are encouraging area businesses to be flexible to staff whose travel may be affected by the flooding. Safety remains our top priority.”
Bartholomew County offices will be closed on Monday, April 7, due to major flooding conditions. The Commissioners’ public meeting that was scheduled for 10 a.m. has also been canceled. It will be rescheduled later in the week.
While city offices are open, some services are impacted.
Those include the following:
- Transit – Route 5 will not be running on Monday, April 7. All other routes will be operational.
- Trash and recycling collection will be running as planned on Monday, April 7-pick-up times/areas may be impacted by high water
Several Roads are closed in the area due to flooding, however, many businesses will be open as scheduled. Below is information suggesting the travel paths for residents and workers to take to get to their respective places of employment.
From I-65 (north of town):
- Taylorsville Exit – 76
- US 31 to Columbus
From I-65 (south of town) – because SR 46 is closed from Goeller to the SR 46 Overpass, and SR 11 is closed in Garden City:
- Taylorsville Exit – 76
- US 31 to Columbus
From the west side – because SR 46 is closed from Goeller to the SR 46 Overpass, and SR 11 is closed in Garden City:
- South on Goeller Blvd
- South on Terrace Lake Road
- East (left) on 200S
- 200S to SR. 11
- SR 11 to 450S
- I-65 North
- Taylorsville Exit – 76
- US 31 to Columbus
From SR 11 – because SR 11 is closed from Garden City to the SR 46 Overpass and south of 450S:
- SR 11 to 450S
- 450 S. to I-65 North
- Taylorsville Exit – 76
- US 31 to Columbus
