COLUMBUS, Ind. – It was a busy weekend for Bartholomew County and Columbus emergency response teams.
Bartholomew County Sheriff Chris Lane said that the Water Rescue Team (a joint effort of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and Columbus Township Fire and Rescue), completed about 10 water rescues, aiding over two dozen individuals. It included an evacuation of a homeless encampment with 12 people.
Sheriff Lane said, “We have also assisted local utility companies in accessing some of their terminals and finding downed power lines. It was also a pleasure to work with the Columbus Fire Department the last two days.”
He also gave “shoutouts” to the Good Samaritan who assisted in evacuating an elderly couple along Jonesville Road with his front loader and the local volunteer fire departments for their assistance.
