SEYMOUR, Ind. – The Seymour Fire Department (SFD) responded to a reported structure fire at Seymour Manufacturing (Seymour Midwest LLC), at 500 N. Broadway St., at around 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Upon dispatch, all three Seymour Fire Stations were activated.
First-arriving crews encountered heavy smoke and visible fire pushing through the roof in the facility’s “wax dip” area — a section of the plant where a manufacturing by-product is coated to produce fire starter blocks.
Firefighters initiated an aggressive attack and set up aerial apparatuses on the north and south sides of the facility to knock down the blaze. Soon thereafter, SFD made entry with handlines to combat the fire from within.
The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes. Crews remained at the scene for over six hours to complete the overhaul and cleanup operations.
Jackson County EMS was on standby to support the operation, but no injuries were reported among employees or emergency personnel. All workers present at the time of the fire evacuated safely.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
