COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District is honoring Earth Day with a special event at the Columbus/Bartholomew Recycling Center, 720 S. Mapleton St., on Friday, April 25, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The celebration is for Bartholomew County citizens only, not for businesses or out-of-county residents.
Individuals can get free “amnesty” for hard-to-dispose-of wastes, such as up to two refrigerant-containing appliances, four tires, and two gas grill tanks.
Tree giveaways, plant swaps, kids’ activities, and educational displays go on all day.
Other things going on at the Earth Day event include:
- TVs/computer monitors disposal ($20 each)
- Document shredding from 9 to 11 a.m.
- Free pickup truck load of mulch or compost from 8 a.m. to noon
- Hot Dog roast from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
