COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County Emergency Management (BCEM) reports that the National Weather Service has placed Columbus and Bartholomew County under a “Marginal Risk” for severe weather this Friday evening and early Saturday morning.
A cold front will be moving southeastward, bringing widespread thunderstorms and the potential for strong to severe storms beginning late Friday. Damaging winds and large hail are the most likely hazards, with isolated flash flooding also possible. Multiple rounds of rain are expected through the weekend.
Officials believe the severe weather will most likely occur between Friday at 11 p.m. and Saturday at 7 a.m.
BCEM advises you to …
- Be weather aware.
- Have multiple ways to receive warnings
- Remember, tornado sirens are meant to alert people outdoors
- Know where to shelter within your home or place of work
- Ensure flashlights and radios have fresh batteries, and cell phones are charged
- Use caution when driving – strong winds can cause high-profile vehicles to overturn
- Strong winds can cause downed trees/power lines that may be difficult to see in the dark
- Do not drive through moving or standing water. If you can’t see the road, turn around
