NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The City of North Vernon Code Enforcement reminds residents within city limits of an ordinance that was passed last fall regarding unruly yards.
It states that it is “illegal to permit grass and or weeds to grow over a foot (12 inches) in height upon any land” within city limits. If residents violate the ordinance, the street commissioner will notify them in writing, and the grass or weeds must be mowed within five days of notification.
In an instance where the street department has to cut the grass, the land owner will be charged $400 or $3 per minute per person, whichever is greater, for the first cut, and an additional $480 or $4 per person per hour for each additional cut.
Residents are also reminded that those with a sidewalk are responsible for mowing between the sidewalk and the curb.
