SEYMOUR, Ind. — Thirteen people and three animals were able to escape a fire in downtown Seymour Wednesday morning that destroyed three businesses and two apartments.
The fire was reported around 11 a.m. in the 100 block of West Second Street in the Hairforce Academy building. The owner told investigators he saw fire in the laundry room of the business, called for help and began to alert occupants.
Seymour Fire Chief Brad Lucas says over the next several hours as many as 60 firefighters fought the blaze and battled the conditions. He praised the efforts of the Department of Public Works for providing ice melt at the scene.
Investigators have not determined a cause, and no damage estimate is available at this time.
