NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Players (JCP) are presenting Jane Eyre: This is My Story this weekend, April 21-23, at the Park Theater Civic Center in downtown North Vernon. This is an original stage adaptation by Amber Shafer of the Jennings County Players.
Amber is a contributor and board member and has been involved in JCP since 2002. Amber’s mother loved the story of Jane Eyre and actually named her daughter after one of the characters from the book. “I was introduced at a young age and I loved it, too,” said Amber. “I have been tossing around the idea of doing the show for 10 years.
There were a lot of scripts but each one that I read just didn’t stay true to the integrity of the novel, I felt, and since [Jane Eyre] is public domain, I decided to write my own.” Jane Eyre is an intelligent child, whose parents passed away while she was an infant. Taken in by her uncle, Mr. Reed, she was loved and well cared for. But her uncle soon passed away, and his wife had become jealous of the attention he gave Jane so she plotted to send her away. Jane eventually falls in love and then finds her way back.
Tickets are available now for the 1850 classic Jane Eyre, written by Charlotte Bronte. Get them at the Park Theatre on Madison Avenue in North Vernon for $8 in advance and $10 on the day of the show. The box office is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2 to 5 p.m. The shows are Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 23, at 2 p.m.
