COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has arrested a Marion County man as a murder suspect in the death of a Bartholomew County woman. The victim, Ashley E. Neville, 40, was found dead inside a home in the 500 block of East County Road 650S early Sunday morning.
The suspect, Anthony Carter, 49, of Indianapolis, is being held without bond in the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of murder and an unrelated out-of-county warrant.
Deputies were initially called to the home on Sunday at about 5:30 a.m. for a welfare check, per BCSO spokesman Sgt. Dane Duke. During the investigation, a property owner reported an abandoned, suspicious vehicle in a field in the 2000 block of East County Road 800S, which law enforcement later found was connected to the victim’s home.
While law enforcement investigated the suspicious vehicle, a citizen reported a man hiding in the woods near the C.R. 650S address, according to the sheriff’s office.
A perimeter was established and a BCSO K9 was called to conduct a search. Deputies found Carter a short time later and he was detained without incident.
The investigation remains ongoing, per BCSO.
