SEYMOUR, Ind. – The Indiana State Police (ISP)-Versailles Post responded to a Monday afternoon accident on US 31 in Jackson County that resulted in a Scott County man being flown to an Indianapolis area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The initial investigation by ISP crash reconstructionists indicated that at 2:30 p.m, a pickup truck, driven by Brian Mullins, 43, of Scottsburg, was northbound on US 31, near County Road 275N (New Farmington Road), just south of Seymour. For an unknown reason, the vehicle left the east side of the roadway, overcorrected, crossed US 31, and then left the west side of the road.
The pickup slammed into an embankment before striking the passenger side of a semi that was stopped on County Road 275N at US 31. Mullins, who was not properly wearing a safety belt, was ejected. He sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour before being flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
The driver of the semi was not injured. Toxicology results are pending. The investigation is ongoing.
