COLUMBUS, Ind. — Unemployment in Bartholomew County for September is at 3.1 percent, which is down from 3.6 percent in August. Estimates from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development show there are 45,114 people employed in the Columbus metropolitan area. The September unemployment figure is the second lowest in the state.
Johnson County unemployment dropped 0.4 of a percent, to 3.4 percent from August to September. An estimated 79,901 people are employed in the area. Unemployment in Jackson County for September was 3.6 percent, down from 4 percent in August. Jennings County jobless numbers dropped 0.5 percent, to 4.3 percent from August to September.
Since January, the Hoosier labor force has increased by 75,566 and total employment went up by 75,425. The Indiana pool of available workers has increased by 200,000 since January 2013. Private sector employment is 42,100 above the peak set in March 2000.
