COLUMBUS, ind. — The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced that the U.S. 31 bridge over Sand Creek in southern Bartholomew County will open Wednesday. The $8.5 million dollar project is opening three weeks ahead of schedule.
“A safer, smoother U.S. 31 opens to welcome Thanksgiving travelers between Columbus and Seymour,” said INDOT Commissioner Brandye Hendrickson. “Construction begins late next year to modernize nearby Interstate 65 as part of INDOT’s record-setting investments in its roads and bridges.”
The bridged was closed for about 241 days while Columbus-based Milestone Contractors completed the work. The project also included approaches and ditch work.
