COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Better Business Bureau is warning holiday shoppers about scams that could be connected to retail shopping apps. Officials say the apps look real and use actual store names like Dollar Tree, Nordstrom, and Zappos.
Some of the bogus apps steal personal information, while others can lock your phone and demand ransom.
Apple workers are removing the apps as they find them, but developers can create more.
The BBB offers some tips to protect personal information:
- Read the fine print in the app store, especially the reviews
- Get the app through the retailer’s web site
- Freeze your credit
