SHELBYVILLE, Ind. — Christopher Michael Smith, 32, of Columbus, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for escape, dealing in narcotics, and possession of narcotics in Shelby County Superior Court. The order, issued by Judge Kent Apsley, says 22 years will be served in jail and two years on probation.
In July 2015, police found a large amount of narcotics, controlled substances and paraphernalia during a domestic disturbance investigation. While the investigation was taking place, Smith fled police custody which led to the escape charge.
In September 2015, a passenger in Smith’s car threw heroin and syringes out of a car during a traffic stop. During that investigation, police found digital scales and paraphernalia.
