COLUMBUS, Ind. — Officials are warning Amazon customers of an emerging scam designed to get your personal information. The report says scammers have targeted Amazon because of their large customer base.
Thousands of customers have reported receiving an email saying their orders can’t be shipped. The message instructs customers to click on link to a seemingly official website that asks for your personal information.
Company officials say they will never send an email asking for any of the following information:
- Your bank account information, credit card number, PIN, or credit card security code (including “updates” to any of the above)
- Your mother’s maiden name or other information to identify you (such as your place of birth or your favorite pet’s name)
- Your Amazon password
Genuine emails will originate from an “@amazon.com” address.
