COLUMBUS, Ind. – A Columbus bartender/server was caught off guard last Wednesday night when she looked at the tip she received from a customer and it was over $2000. Carey Likens, of Columbus, whose regular job is as a server at Hotel Indigo, was working an extra shift at the Holiday Inn in Columbus.
As she was serving dinner to a business person who comes to town regularly, they struck up a conversation. Likens had also waited on him a couple of months ago. He was evidently impressed with her photographic memory as she remembered everything they had talked about from the previous visit. She says she might have also made an impression because of the special drink he had her mix up.
Two hours later, his tab was $64.20 and Likens says her heart skipped a beat when she looked at the tip on the receipt. In honor of the new year and new decade, she had received a gratuity of $2020.
Likens is saving the money for now. She still cannot believe how lucky she was and wants everyone to know, “there are good people out there and you never know when you might run into them.”
