INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The latest report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development says more than 43,000 people were working in the Columbus metropolitan area in November 2016. The Columbus MSA unemployment rate that month was 2.9 percent, down from 3.3 percent in November 2015.
The report also says from November 2015 to November 2016, available manufacturing jobs decreased by 5.1 percent, and the trade, transportation and utility sector increased by 11 percent. Service jobs increased by 4.4 percent. The Indiana unemployment rate for the same period was 4.2 percent, lower than any neighboring state. The national unemployment rate for November 2016 was 4.6 percent.
