COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Hope resident was arrested over the weekend after scuffling with police during a traffic stop.
Columbus police stopped a car driven by Carl McNicholas, 33, around 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, and confirmed he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. When police tried to take McNicholas into custody, he pulled away and attempted to flee on foot. A Good Samaritan who saw the exchange, helped the officer by bringing the suspect to the ground and holding him until police could place him in handcuffs.
McNicholas was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail and charged with an outstanding Bartholomew County warrant, possession of paraphernalia, and resisting law enforcement. The officer, Travis Harbaugh, was not injured.
