COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police were able make an arrest Sunday evening in connection with several car break-ins near the 2500 block of 25th Street.
Officers were initially called to investigate a report of a suspicious person on a bicycle around 10:45 p.m. One of the recent theft victims provided a description of the bicyclist to police, but told them the suspect had fled the area. After searching the immediate area, police did not immediately find the suspect, but they did recover the victim’s property. They also found a driver’s license that did not belong to the victim.
While on patrol, officers located a suspect riding a bicycle near 22nd Street and Keller Avenue. The man, later identified as Christopher Battin, 30, was positively identified by the victim as the person riding the bike. Battin was matched to the driver’s license found at the scene. While searching the suspect, police found additional stolen property and a small amount of heroin.
Battin has been charged with four counts of theft, four counts of unlawful entry to a vehicle, criminal mischief, and possession of heroin.
