FRANKLIN, Ind. — A Tuesday afternoon traffic stop in Johnson County led to the arrest of two local residents for a variety of charges.
A Johnson County sheriff’s deputy observed a car in disrepair near State Roads 37 and 144, and pulled it over around noon. The driver, later identified as Billy Crook, 26, of Martinsville, gave police a false name. After learning Crook’s identity police asked for consent to search, but Crook refused. A police canine conducted a free air sniff and reacted to the presence of illegal narcotics. Police were then able to find two syringes with brown liquid and other drug paraphernalia in the car and in Crook’s possession.
A passenger in the vehicle was also searched, but officers found no contraband and released him at the scene. Crook was taken to the Johnson County Jail and charged with false reporting, driving while suspended, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of paraphernalia.
