COLUMBUS, Ind. – What had become an eye-sore on Second Street in Columbus is being demolished as the city makes way for more progress.
On its Facebook page, the Columbus Redevelopment Commission (CRC) says it received monetary support from the Indiana Brownfields Program’s Petroleum Orphan Sites Initiative to remove the former Co-Op gas station on Second Street, near downtown. Funding from the program helps Indiana communities address petroleum contamination on brownfield sites resulting from leaking underground storage tanks that cannot be addressed by the party responsible.
By removing this blighted structure and its associated underground storage tanks, the CRC is opening this section of the community for future growth and development.
