FRANKLIN, Ind. — Johnson County Sheriff’s deputies recovered a stolen vehicle and made one arrest Tuesday around 2:20 p.m.
A deputy observed a stolen truck and a Jeep traveling at a high rate of speed in the 6500 block of North U.S. 31. When the deputy attempted to catch the vehicles, the Jeep exited onto County Road 650S, while the suspected stolen vehicle turned into a business on the west side of the road.
The deputy found the truck at the business, but the driver fled on foot. Police found the suspect, identified as Shawn Tatman, 39, of Columbus, walking in farm field. The deputy ordered Tatman to stop, but he initially refused. After a short pursuit, Tatman surrendered.
Police determined Tatman had broken into an Edinburgh residence and taken the vehicle, a flashlight, and $4,800. The truck and flashlight were recovered, however the money is missing. The Jeep and its driver that were traveling with Tatman have not been found.
Tatman has been charged with residential entry, auto theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and resisting law enforcement.
