COLUMBUS, Ind. — Bartholomew County Senior Judge Stephen Heimann has ordered former Jonesville clerk-treasurer Melissa Schultheis, 43, to jail for 30 days for failing to make restitution payments.
The former official was ordered to pay $92,000 in restitution over 15 years and had not made any payments over the last year. She still owes the town more than $75,000 plus interest. Schultheis served as clerk treasurer from 1998 to 2008. A 2017 audit first determined several thousand dollars were missing.
Changes are expected to come from the court system that could extend her probation and tighten repayment rules.
