COLUMBUS, Ind. — Alcohol is suspected in a single-vehicle accident that involved a 20-year-old Columbus man.
Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash at the intersection of County Road 450S and County Road 400W around 2:20 a.m. on Sunday. The driver, Evan Wischmeier, told police he fell asleep and ran off the road. The car left the roadway and rolled down an embankment.
“Driving is difficult enough under the best of conditions but when you drive after drinking, you are not only putting your life at risk, you are risking the lives of everyone you come across while driving. Please don’t drink and drive,” said Bartholomew County Sheriff Matthew A. Myers.
Wischmeier has been charged with illegal consumption and possession of a controlled substance.
