GREENWOOD, Ind. — An investigation into shoplifting at the Greenwood Meijer store led to a pursuit and arrest Sunday.
Around 3:50 p.m., employees told police the suspect, later identified as Wayne Gebhart, 49, of Martinsville, fled north in a tan Ford truck. Johnson County deputies located the truck near Sable Ridge Drive and State Road 135. When police attempted to stop the suspect, he accelerated and a chase ensued. The suspect continued onto Fry Road where he pulled into a business parking lot, jumped from the vehicle while it was still running and started fleeing on the foot. The vehicle continued moving and struck a sheriff’s department vehicle. The suspect ran across a creek and into a wooded area. Gebhart was finally captured after a search in a nearby subdivision.
Police recovered alcohol and hunting equipment, valued at over $400, from the truck Gebhart was driving. He was taken to the Johnson County Jail.
