COLUMBUS, Ind. — Leonard Burch, 25, former Nashville reserve police officer who has been charged with two misdemeanors in the Xavier Scrogham pursuit case, has requested a public defender.
Burch has been ordered to complete an application by Monday, March 8, that will disclose income and assets to determine if he is eligible.
The former reserve policeman is charged with false informing and reckless driving after the August 2016 police chase in which Xavier Scrogham, 18, was killed. Official reports say that officers pursued the motorcyclist from the Taylorsville area, through Columbus, to the scene of the fatal crash on Sunland Road.
