INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Columbus native, NASCAR Cup Series Champion, and IndyCar Series champion Tony Stewart has introduced Jay Howard as the driver for his entry into the 101st Indianapolis 500 this May. The Team One Cure Car is co-sponsored by Schmidt Peterson Motorsports.
Howard won the Indy Lights Series championship in 2006 and last participated in the Indy 500 in 2011 where he finished 30th. Howard is a native of England and has six career IndyCar Series starts.
“I have every bit of confidence in the skills of Jay behind the wheel. Growing up 45 minutes from the Speedway, the Indianapolis 500 is an important part of my racing history,” said Stewart. “Participating in this year’s race with Jay and Sam through Team One Cure, we will be making a difference in both the 500 and the race against cancer.”
Stewart established Team One Cure within the Tony Stewart Foundation to create awareness for the Flint Animal Cancer Center at Colorado State University which develops treatments for humans and pets.
