INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Columbus soccer was recognized at the Indiana Soccer Awards Gala held recently in Carmel. Director of sports tourism at the Columbus Visitor’s Center, Eric Marvin, received the President’s Award for his support of soccer events held in the city. The Columbus Express Soccer Club was named the “Tournament Host of the Year” for the 2016 Indiana Soccer Club Finals.
Marvin was recognized for his work in providing housing and meeting space for players and staff over the last few years. His efforts included organizing a dinner buffet for referees and coordinating transportation. “It is an honor to receive this recognition from Indiana Soccer. Their events have produced millions of dollars in estimated direct visitor spending over the last few years and we are fortunate to have such a great partnership with their organization. Of course, hosting their events would not be possible without the Columbus Express Soccer Club and the Columbus Parks & Recreation Department. This award goes to everyone involved in making these tournaments a huge success,” said Marvin.
Since 2012, the team of Chip Orben, Kenrick Ramirez, Jenny Carlson and many volunteers have hosted tournament games. In 2016 Columbus Express held the finals again and was recognized for their outstanding service and excellence of facilities.
