COLUMBUS, Ind. — As Hoosiers celebrate Labor Day 2016, Indiana has set another employment milestone. More than 500,000 people are employed in advanced manufacturing in Indiana, according to a report by Lightweight Innovations For Tomorrow.
Since the recession of 2009, advanced manufacturing jobs in Indiana have increased by about 19 percent, or more than 85,000 jobs. The numbers demonstrate the importance of this employment segment to the Indiana economy.
LIFT is a Detroit-based public-private partnership committed to developing and deploying advanced lightweight metal manufacturing technologies and implementing education strategies to prepare workers today and in the future. The organization is funded in part by the Department of Defense and managed by the Office of Naval Research.
