COLUMBUS, Ind.–A representation of law enforcement officers from the Columbus Police Department and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office traveled to Terre Haute on Thursday. The local group made the journey to pay their respects to fallen Terre Haute police officer Rob Pitts, who was killed in the line of duty last Friday.
The visit to west-central Indiana comes just ahead of National Law Enforcement Week, which starts Monday. To culminate the special week, on Friday, May 18, officers and other emergency agencies will gather at the Public Safety Plaza, on Brown Street in Columbus, to hold a ceremony honoring officers killed in the line of duty across the nation. During the observance, local law enforcement personnel will read a list of names of officers who lost their lives in 2017, while performing service to their community. The event will be open to the public.
