COLUMBUS, Ind.–One local manufacturer had an eventful start to the work week early Monday morning. Captain Mike Wilson of the Columbus Fire Department (CFD) says that just before 2 a.m., crews were dispatched to NTN Driveshaft on International Boulevard in Columbus after it was reported that a piece of forge press machinery was on fire.
When firefighters arrived, smoke could be seen outside of the building despite the fire having already been extinguished. Efforts then turned to venting the smoke from the facility.
Eleven employees complained of possible smoke inhalation and were assessed by CFD personnel and EMTs from Columbus Regional Health (CRH). Seven of those were taken to CRH for treatment, while the other four refused transport to the hospital.
The cause of the fire is still undetermined and no damage estimate has been set.
