COLUMBUS, Ind.–Christmas Day will be here before you know it, but the “elves” of the Columbus Firemen’s Cheer Fund are hard at work this morning. Today is “delivery day” as firefighters and community volunteers put the wraps on another season of giving for kids in Bartholomew County.
Over one thousand children, who otherwise would have gotten little or nothing for Christmas, will be receiving presents as the Cheer Fund makes its annual tour around the city and county today, dropping off bikes, games, toys, clothes, and other gifts.
Currently, the Cheer Fund operates out of the United Way of Bartholomew County on 13th Street. However, the city recently allowed for a portion of the new Public Safety Training Facility under construction at the Columbus AirPark to be used as a much-needed permanent home for the Cheer Fund in 2019.
