COLUMBUS, Ind. – At the Bartholomew County Commissioners meeting on Monday morning, Chris Lane and Dave Steinkoenig of the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department presented Emmylou Wischmeier with a certificate of appreciation for her $10,000 donation to the department’s K-9 program.
The money is being used to purchase a dog from Ventosa Kennel in North Carolina. The dog is undergoing six weeks of training on its own as well as six weeks with its handler. The animal’s name is Shadow.
“They told me I could have a relationship with the dog, and that’s important,” Wischmeier said. She noted that her family has many animal lovers, and owns several rescue dogs.
In other business, the commissioners approved the highway garage site plan application, awarded a contract for seven snow plows to Jeffersonville-based Civilcon, and approved a health department grant application for lead testing for children.
