COLUMBUS, Ind. – At its meeting on Wednesday, the Columbus City Plan Commission moved, in a 6-to-3 vote, to recommend to Columbus City Council a proposed rezoning of the peninsula at Spring Hill Lake, within the Tipton Lakes community, for two-family housing. The recommendation for the duplexes comes despite spirited, negative public input from area residents. The opposition was based on concerns such as traffic, the view from their nearby neighborhoods, and property values.
Developer Jeff Bush asserted that property values would not be affected. He characterized the project as “a type of development not found so far at Tipton Lakes.” The market for the units would be homebuyers who are 55 years of age or older, seeking maintenance-free living.
Former Tipton Lakes Company president Don Michael said the company “has been in front of this commission probably 50 times in the last 39 years. To me, this is business as usual.”
