COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Columbus Fire Department has promoted Michael Nida to the rank of Lieutenant. Nida is a 17-year veteran of the department and holds certifications for emergency medical technician, hazardous materials technician, aircraft rescue, fire inspector, technical rescue awareness, and strategies and tactics.
Lt. Nida is also a 31-year veteran of the Indiana Army National Guard and holds the rank of first sergeant. He has been deployed to Bosnia, Iraq and Kuwait.
The promotion was made following the retirement of Lt. Steve Ahrmann, who served Columbus for 32 years as a firefighter.
