COLUMBUS, Ind. – Consultant Ed Curtin, of CWC Latitudes LLC, presented the final draft of a five-year master plan for the county parks to the Bartholomew County Parks Board on Thursday evening.
Some of the recommendations included more use of a website and social media to educate the public regarding the county’s recreational opportunities, consideration of full-time and part-time people to oversee park system operations, and lights for Dunn Stadium.
The next steps for the plan include continued public input, reaching out to the Bartholomew County Council, consultation with Ceraland, and prioritizing projects.
County Commissioner Carl Lienhoop offered some observations after the presentation, including the idea that the county might need to devote more funding to its parks, and perhaps even consider closing some of them.
The plan will be submitted to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources in January.
