COLUMBUS, Ind.–Two residents wanted on outstanding warrants are in custody on several charges after they attempted to evade officers in a vehicle on Thursday night in Columbus. Lt. Matt Harris with the Columbus Police Department (CPD) says patrolmen attempted to stop a car near 25th Street and Maple Street after noting it had the wrong license plate.
The occupants refused to pull over and a ten-minute pursuit began through several different streets and alleys in town. The chase ended after police conducted a high-risk traffic stop in the 700 block of Maple Street. The driver, Samantha Anderson, 27, of Columbus, and her passenger, Christopher Branum, 33, of Columbus, were both arrested.
Officers confirmed active warrants for both suspects and the pair was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail. Anderson was charged with reckless driving, criminal recklessness, driving while suspended with a prior conviction, resisting law enforcement in a vehicle, and a previous Jackson County warrant. Branum faces the music for two Bartholomew County warrants.
