COLUMBUS, Ind. – CPD’s newest rookie officer doesn’t complain about riding in the back seat of a patrol vehicle. The Columbus Police Department welcomed to the force earlier this week, K-9 Bane, a two year old German Sheppard who was born in Poland. Bane and his handler, Officer Marcus Clark, recently completed a six week training course at the Ventosa Kennel in Scotland Neck, North Carolina.
Bane is a dual purpose canine who has been trained to detect narcotics and apprehend suspects. Officer Clark and Bane have assisted in nine drug arrests during their first two days on patrol in Columbus. “I have always been passionate about dogs and one of my goals at the police department was to become a canine handler” said Officer Marcus Clark, who also educates local youth as a DARE Officer. “I am looking forward to working with Bane and helping keep dangerous drugs off of our streets” Clark added.
Bane replaced K-9 Max who retired from duty last year. He will work in conjunction with CPD’s two other police service dogs, K-9 Argo and K-9 Oxs.
