COLUMBUS, Ind. — A teenager was killed and five people were injured in a crash at a Columbus intersection Thursday.
Keegan L. Phillips, 17, of Columbus, was the driver of a car that pulled off of C.R. 550N and into the path of a Chevy Blazer on Marr Road and C.R. 550N, police said.
Phillips was pronounced dead the scene.
Blake Sinclair, 18, Rachel Turner, 18 and Tierra Miller, 19, were passengers in Phillips’ car. All three were rushed to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for serious injuries. Miller’s injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
The collision forced the Chevy Blazer to strike another vehicle traveling north on Marr Road. Both drivers, who are women in their 40’s, were treated for minor injuries at Columbus Regional Health. The accident occurred around 11:50 p.m.
Investigators say Phillips initially stopped at the intersection, however, it remains unclear why the car pulled in front of the Blazer. Police are unsure if drugs, alcohol or speed played a role in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
