COLUMBUS, Ind. — On Friday, the Columbus Police Department was notified of a threat posted on social media aimed at the 2016 Ethnic Expo being held this weekend in downtown Columbus.
The Columbus Police Investigation Division began looking into the origin of the threat immediately. Detectives were able to locate a 17-year-old juvenile, who was determined to be the source of the threats. During the investigation it was discovered that the juvenile had overheard remarks from individuals about being safe at public events and in turn, posted those misconstrued statements to Facebook. As a result of the investigation it has been determined that the threats were not found to be credible and there is no threat for the public’s safety.
When notified, the Columbus Police Department quickly began working with the organizers and vendors of the Ethic Expo regarding the threat. The Columbus Police Department will continue to maintain a presence for the duration of the event to ensure a safe environment for all attendees.
