FREETOWN, Ind.–A Bartholomew County man who was on the run from law enforcement after a Monday morning burglary in Jackson County is now in custody. Sources say that Nathan Shepherd, 31, of Columbus, was located 14 hours after he fled from officers. He was apprehended less than a mile away from the burglary site. Shepherd faces charges of possession of marijuana, burglary, intimidation, criminal trespassing, and resisting law enforcement.
His partner, Travis Mitchell, 30, of Columbus, was found earlier as he was hiding in the Freetown garage in which the two men had allegedly attempted to burglarize before officers arrived. Deputies were able to persuade Mitchell to exit voluntarily after a standoff of nearly five hours.
