COLUMBUS, Ind. – The Substance Abuse Public Funding Board approved a two-part recommendation to the Columbus City Council and the Bartholomew County Council to fund a men’s addiction treatment program at the Bartholomew County Jail. The cost will be split evenly between the city and county.
The program, REALM (Recovery Enables A Life For Men), would be run within the Community Corrections function at the jail. One 15-bed pod would be dedicated to the program.
The curriculum would consist of a four-month residential component, plus an aftercare portion lasting the remainder of a year. Those admitted would be assessed for readiness to change and risk and would be placed in it as a result of a conviction. The program’s features are designed to instill a sense of responsibility and understanding of one’s place in a family dynamic.
The request, for a total of $241,365, would fund REALM though the end of 2019.
