INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Department of Revenue and the Internal Revenue Service have opened the 2016 individual income tax filing season and have started processing individual income tax returns. Tax season will close April 18.
The department encourages taxpayers to electronically file their tax returns. The agencies will also be on the lookout for fraudulent tax refund attempts. Since its inception in 2014, the Identity Protection Program has stopped more than $100 million in fraud attempts.
Taxpayers with individual income questions may contact the department at 317-232-2240.
