JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind.–Johnson County has seen a flurry of injury accidents over the past several days.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department says an early Thursday morning crash near Amity shut down the northbound lanes of U.S. 31 for a brief period, after a pickup truck struck a bicyclist near the Hill Top Motel. Witnesses report the truck was in the left lane passing another vehicle in the right lane when a bicycle entered traffic at a high rate of speed. The bicyclist was flown via Lifeline to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis.
Two motorcyclists were hurt in separate single-vehicle accidents. On Friday, Caleb Armand, 24, of Nineveh, struck a deer on westbound Hospital Road, near Franklin. The following day, Steven Larracey, 32, of Camby, misjudged a curve and lost control of his vehicle on State Road 44. Both were treated at Johnson Memorial Health.
Early Saturday morning, a pickup driven by Michael Sandefur, 38, of Edinburgh, left the roadway and struck a tree near the intersection of County Roads 650S and 800E. The driver was trapped in the vehicle until officers freed him. A blood draw was taken at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to determine blood alcohol content.
