NORTH VERNON, Ind. – The Jennings County Community Foundation (JCCF) is having its 25th-anniversary party this weekend, “Summer FunFest,” at the Stellar Plaza, in downtown North Vernon.
The public is welcome from 3 to 10 p.m., this Saturday, as JCCF celebrates with activities and live music on the plaza. The first 500 people will be treated to a free meal which includes a hot dog, chips, cookie, and a drink. The Spare Change Band, Tracy Thompson, Elaine Basham, and Gary Applewhite will all hit the music stage starting at 3:30 p.m.
In the evening, two events will close out the affair. At 7 p.m., a special presentation will be given by Lowell Grissom about his brother Virgil “Gus” Grissom, who was one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts. Following that, there will be a showing of an Apollo 11 documentary which was filmed to commemorate this summer’s 50th anniversary of the first landing of humans on the moon.
