BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Columbus Mayor Jim Lienhoop was part of a panel last Friday that examined the role of Indiana in the world’s economy at the America’s Role in the World conference, at Indiana University’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies in Bloomington.
The panel, titled “Indiana and the World”, covered topics surrounding Indiana’s contribution in the world economy. Joining Mayor Lienhoop on the panel were representatives from Eli Lilly & Co., Indiana Governor’s Workforce Cabinet, and the Mexico Business Forum.
Co-convened by two of America’s most esteemed voices in foreign policy, Sen. Dick Lugar and Rep. Lee Hamilton, the conference aimed to build non-partisan support for the principle that America’s future is global and our engagement in the world is essential.
Mayor Lienhoop fielded questions around workforce needs, immigration, trade and its effect on local economies, diversity and climate change. “Due to our manufacturing and technology-based economy and diverse workforce, Columbus has a stake in addressing all these important issues,” said Mayor Lienhoop. “I was honored to be able to represent Columbus at this event.”
